Premiere in NYC

The Cassatt String Quartet performs November 20th at Fordham College at Lincoln Center. The program highlight is the world premiere of Lawrence Kramer's String Quartet No. 3 "Beginning with Time." The quartet also performs "Modes" by 20th century American composer Dorothy Rudd Moore and Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 14. Fordham College at Lincoln Center is at 113 W 60th St, 12th Floor Lounge in Manhattan. Tickets are $25 general admission ($15 students), available here.

Cassatt in the Basin

For over 20 years, the Cassatts have made bi-annual trips from New York City to West Texas for their “Cassatt in the Basin!” residency program. In Midland, Odessa, and surrounding areas they visit schools and community centers to perform and teach life lessons via chamber music and orchestral playing such as teamwork, verbal and non-verbal communication, and respect for one another. It is the only program of its kind.

The quartet just completed their latest trip to the region, where the residency included performances at Museum of Southwest's Fredda Turner Durham Children's Museum. During their "Seeing Sound" concerts, children in the audience created pictures inspired by what they heard. Read all about it in the Midland Times here.

40th Anniversary Season

The Cassatt String Quartet, founded in 1985, is in the midst of its 40th anniversary season, which includes commissions of new works by Joan Tower, Victoria Bond, Shirish Korde, and Mari Kimura; and premieres, performances, and recordings of the work of dozens more major American composers. The quartet's Spring season includes tours of Ohio with pianist Emely Phelps and Italy with guitarist Eliot Fisk, a performance at Treetops Chamber Music Society in Connecticut, and their annual residency at the Seal Bay Festival of American Chamber Music in July.
